After little more than a week, a tree can it loses its winter hardiness after which it succumbs to freezing temperatures when planted outdoors. Finally, a Christmas tree is often displayed in the home too long. Even one episode of excessive drying can stress a tree to the point where it cannot recover. Very often while in the home, a live Christmas tree is allowed to dry out between watering. Often larger trees are purchased for in-house display that suffer a greater degree of transplant shock than smaller trees incur when planted. The tree species purchased may not be adapted to the climate where the tree is planted. Most problems can be traced to several factors. Unfortunately, Christmas trees replanted after holiday use often do not survive or grow well. Following use as Christmas trees, either type can be planted into the landscape. Containerized trees are usually smaller and target the “tabletop” Christmas tree market. These have large field-dug root balls bundled in burlap or other fabric.
Living trees are usually purchased as containerized trees grown in pots or as "balled and burlapped" (B&B) trees. I ran out of that can too, so on a few of them I used my spray adhesive and dipped the bottom half of the ornaments in sparkly glitter.One of the more enjoyable Christmas traditions is to replant a living Christmas tree into your landscape after the holiday season. I also had a can of spray glitter that I used on most of the ornaments. I was also able to empty three of the cans, so in total my spray paint collection has decreased! I bought two extra cans of spray paint to add to my collection (that were on sale for less than $5 each).
That ended up being a happy accident because I really love the ones the best with multiple colors. I ran out of a few colors before I was finished so I mixed the colors. They’re not perfect, but I still think they turned out pretty great. I did quite a few coats to get an even coverage, but several of them still ended up with paint drips. There’s probably a better way to do it, because my ornaments kept rolling around, which smudged the paint and picked up dust. So I moved into the garage and spray painted them on a sheet of plywood. I had planned to spray paint them outside, but any little bit of wind blew the ornaments around. I chose to do different shades of blue, green, pink, yellow, and maroon. If you’re like me, you probably have oodles of half empty spray paint cans in your collection that you can use up. I’m embracing it this year, and going all out with the color.

We are totally at the Christmas tree stage where it’s full of handmade and sentimental ornaments, and I love it. This year I wanted to create a colorful tree that would be fun for the kids. Now four houses and four children later, I wanted to do something different. We bought some very inexpensive ornaments when we were first married, and I have always done the blue and silver tree. We have had the same Christmas ornaments for almost ten years.
